Álvaro Soler is a multidisciplinary artist based in Barcelona from 1995.
Ever since he was young he showed great interest for anything related to drawing or representing objects in different ways. This passion was carried throughout childhood and it leads him to study Arts in the “Lotja” University in Barcelona, with a major in drawing.
Being drawing his primary tool when working, he uses sculpture and painting as an aid in order to develop his projects.
After 8 years behind the colors and designs of drivers and riders’ helmets and team colors on the starting line, in 2006 Alvaro started a new concept that merged his passion for races with his favorite object, THE HELMET. Helmet as a an artistic support, helmet as a piece of art of its own
”Helmets are present in a lot of our history, from wars to legends and everyday life. It is a nice and noble object at the same time. It can also be something that helps a person disguise itself, makes it easier to get by without being recognized. In the end it is a spherical space where we can express a message and a way of life, our message. This concept makes the helmet go beyond his sole purpose of protecting the person wearing it and it allows people to communicate with it. This exhibition mainly uses motorcycle helmets as a support, but the message it tries to transmit to the public embraces the helmet in all it forms and uses. The goal is to show this object as an expression of someone’s own personality, separating the helmet itself from the motorcycle world or from the other surroundings where it is usually used on the everyday life.” |
